    膜成型涂料的产品研发往往首先要筛选大量的树脂和添加剂配方,以实现抗紫外线性能和耐水解性。荧光冷凝方法 (ISO 4892-3 and ASTM G154),比如在UVTest仪器中进行测试,就是专为这一目的而设计的。这项技术将测试样品曝晒在太阳光谱中较低的紫外线部分,在暗阶段交替进行水分冷凝。虽然一般不被视为准确定义的耐候老化测试,但这种技术很受欢迎,而且通常适用于对低波长紫外线和水解降解的涂层树脂薄膜配方进行大规模筛选。然而,它通常无法预测使用寿命或颜色和外观属性,在这方面采用氙灯老化是更为合理的方案。



    接下来,对有前景的配方进行的户外暴露测试通常在一个或多个更激进的基准气候中开始,比如南佛罗里达和/或Atlas全球曝晒网络中的其他全球测试场。

    为了提供产品耐久性的临时数据,包括颜色和外观以及物理性能和性能属性的保留,加速老化也可以通过两种方式进行。首先,利用全光谱氙弧灯老化仪器,如Ci系列Weather-Ometer(Ci3000+Ci4400 Ci5000)、Xenotest (Alpha+Beta+XT440/440+)或SUNTEST (XLS+XXL+)仪器,进行实验室加速人工耐候老化。全谱有助于确保光化学降解机制和测试样品的温度与室外曝晒密切相关,且颜色和外观属性将更具预测性。

       

    测试一般按照ISO、ASTM或类似标准执行。实验室老化的优势,除了与户外相比缩短了测试时间,还包括测试的可重复性和可再现性,允许在不同的产品之间进行比较,在实验室之间或者在不同的测试时间之间进行比较,不受自然室外天气的固有变化的影响。然而,所有的实验室暴露都应该与在一个或多个气候条件下的实时户外曝晒相关联,并进行验证。

    加速老化试验的第二种方法是户外加速老化。虽然实验室气候老化可为比较提供一个共同的基础,但加速的户外老化更接近自然老化,因为它使用的是自然的日照。太阳能跟踪装置使用多达10面特殊反射镜,将太阳的直接光束反射集中在测试样品上。它们经历光照和温度自然昼夜循环,水喷淋可提供热冲击或夜间润湿,以模拟佛罗里达的亚热带环境。 在20世纪60年代,Atlas DSET Laboratories引入了太阳跟踪和聚光EMMA (Equatorial Mount with Mirrors for Acceleration) ,开创了加速户外老化测试。
